district of Mohrungen, East Prussia
1959 graduates from secondary school
1961 - 64 apprenticeship as piano builder with Steinway & Sons in Hamburg
1964 moves to Berlin
1964 - 67 commercial apprenticeship at Steinway
1968 enters architecture department at Berlin's art academy

1978 - 79 DAAD scholarship, residence in Tuscany, Italy
1980 - 85 on artistic staff at Hochschule der Künste, Berlin
